KONTRA LABS #1 Publication

In January and February, KONTRA explored inequality within the creative sector of Rotterdam and the manner in which this impacts 14 participants of the research. These participants joined the research through open call. In KONTRA’s very first publication, “Tackling inequality within the Rotterdam(se) creative scene”, inequalities and discrimination are the focal points of their exploration.

KONTRA Labs #1 strives for dialogue, and transformation. To bridge the gap between policymakers and the sector, this project is based on suggestions from residents that were heard during the research group. Some of the suggestions are:

- Calls upon artistic institutions and spaces (both public and private) to tackle this inequality by opening-up access and opportunities for the Other.
- Urges artistic institutions and spaces (both public and private) to tackle the culture of silence and consequent lack of accountability.
- Further emphasise the usage of the word “visibility” instead of inclusivity when referring to the sole action of “giving” Others a platform.
